Undergraduate Intern Engineer

Job Description

Scientific Applications & Research Associates, Inc is a leading edge Research & Development Company with a wide spectrum of technologies in commercial and military applications. We have expertise in electromagnetic and acoustic sensors and detection systems; directed energy technologies; automated test data management signal processing; small robotics; and renewable and alternative energy generation. We are looking for an undergraduate that would like to work with us as they complete their degree (and possibly beyond). We are interested in students whose interests include Pulse Power & RF Engineering, particularly those who have some experience with pulse power testing, continuous wave testing, and/or the diagnostic instruments that accompany some of these areas, and/or those who have some experience with electronics design, Labview and Matlab programming and/or non-linear modeling.

Areas of Interest

The positions include a wide range of challenging and interesting work. The work involves both high voltage (10-100’s of kV) and high frequency equipment (10-100's of MHz) where attention to detail is critical. Interest in working "hands on" with actual hardware is vital and some data acquisition-related software experience is an advantage. Circuit modeling including non-linear magnetics and pulse power related circuit models would also be an advantage. There will be some opportunity for paid travel in association with the tasks, and these may be arranged to cooperate with class schedules. The internships are best suited to "self-starter" students who are good at multitasking and at managing their own time, as substantial inventiveness and independence will be expected. The positions require occasional work at US government facilities, so the applicant must be a U.S. Citizen capable of acquiring a government security clearance.

Please comment on your interest and any experiences in each of these areas in your cover letter.
